Back In Action

2022 has commenced and we are beyond excited to be back in the ring. After a premature end to our season last year, it was a very long winter. My fitness plan went out the window after getting shingles, then my Dad picked up Covid and took a long time to recover. The silver lining, we both decided to fall apart during our winter down time. We have had, our horses checked with their Osteopath, Vet, Farrier and Dentist and we are ready to get back to doing what we love. Pixie was first to be shod and back in action, she is prone to being on the chubby side like myself, we are partial to sweets and over indulging. We worked on building up our fitness slowly, Pixie is getting there faster than me.

The last week in January, the dreaded task arrived, trying to fit into my favourite breeches, phew they fit and didn’t burst, another star for the quality of products from Equestrian World of Maynooth. We went to Coilog with Pixie, who was thrilled to be back in action. I often wonder if they get confused by the time off, Pixie didn’t forget her love of jumping and running away with me. She stormed around her class and was equally happy to get back home to munch her lunch. She has two great loves in life food and jumping.

The harder task of bringing Paris back to work had also commenced, Paris has an aversion to wind and birds. Every time we enter the arena both make an appearance. Although, a pleasant surprise and she was happy to get back to work, we took it really slow. With Dad still feeling the after effects of covid, I had to get on with things a lot more this year and wasn’t able to be as much of a cry baby. This led to a new found confidence and highlighted a lot of the alleged issues with the horse were actually mine. The first trip away of the year for Paris was a lesson with Sophie. As always I felt we both greatly benefited from the lesson, even if we were exhausted. Paris tends to engage limp mode after a certain amount of work and nothing or no one can persuade her to end her time out. I love lessons, they reiterate all of the things I know I should be doing, but disappear from my chaotic brain in the frantic pursuit of a clear round. I always feel a renewed sense of confidence and ambition after a lesson, it also helps we train with one of the most talented riders in the country.

Last weekend we went back to coilog with both mares. David very generously gifted us a huge box of goodies, my mares will look very smart in their new wool show rugs. We will have to notify Paris these are not for eating. The new Equiline X-Cel safety stirrups were also in the box. They look amazing, so stylish and with fab safety features. The pressure was on to put in some good rounds. The girls were on their best behaviour. Paris sailed around the course, after being out of the ring for 4 months she didn’t show any signs of being rusty (unlike me). Pixie, not to be out shined by her sister was equally well behaved, even if she did decide to take me for a joy ride post round. We need to work on our brakes.

This week despite the inclement weather, we have been testing the Equiline X-Cel stirrups. To look at they are very sleek, professional and stylish. Mine are black, a little more subdued than my usual colour choices, but David is on a mission to make us look the part with all of this amazing gear. There is a large range of colours which can be viewed on the website, something to suit everyone. The mistake I made when testing was I didn’t check the size of the stirrup in comparison to my previous ones and ended up riding two holes too short. Once resolved, I began to see the benefits of these innovative stirrups, my old ones, although I loved them and their incredibly flashy (or tacky colour depending on your fashion stance) had a fault, the arm would release if your leg was misplaced during a spook or over the top of the fence, this was disconcerting and also led to break in concentration mid round. The wind has well and thoroughly tested this feature in the X-Cel and the safety arm is a lot more sturdy and secure. The balance of the stirrup is also favourable, there is a slight incline in the foot paired with a rubber gripping system I feel like my leg is more secure. I am a creature of habit, and I hate change so for me to adjust so rapidly to these is a testament to their quality. I would definitely recommend these, also the shop is offering a test feature so you don’t have to buy untried. I love this idea, if you are like me and of the “if its not broke don’t fix it” mentality, it gives you the opportunity to see how you feel about a product without being committed to the change. To be honest, I didn’t think I would commit to the change but the quality of this stirrup has swayed me from my lovely rose gold to the sleek black. My showjumping style evolution continues and ill be competing in these timeless stirrups for seasons to come.

As always I am so thankful to Equestrian world of Maynooth for their continued support and we are so proud to showcase their fab products each week. Now to put all our Feibing products to use and get cleaning for the next show.

Happy Jumping,
